who we are

Hi there! Nicole and Amber here. We are two members of the Asian American Pacific Islander community as well as the reading community, based in Hawaii. Inspired by our love for discussing books and our desire to see more of ourselves reflected in the stories we read, we decided to start a nonprofit, to discuss and share writing, culture, history, and give you some book recommendations along the way!

Nic Dao

Founder and President

Favorite books: Pachinko by Minjin Lee, Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong

Nic has always a passion for learning about other cultures, and has learned quite a bit from Amber about Hawaiian history since moving to Hawaii from California in ninth grade. She always has a hard time when someone asks her what her favorite book is.

Amber Nobriga

Vice President and Co-Host

Favorite books: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

Amber really enjoys learning about history and talking about it with other people like Nicole. She has two favorite books and nothing can replace them.

Trinity Sinclair

Media Supervisor

Favorite books: The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

Trinity loves photography, animating, and movie critique. In her free time she can be found editing any kind of media, from video to audio.

Joe Manfre

Board Member and Advisor

Favorite books: Ethnomathematics: Link between Traditions and Modernity by Ubiratan D’Ambrosio, Living Mathematx: Towards a Vision for the Future by Rochelle Guitierrez
